About Ulana Rey, PharmD

Ulana Rey PharmD is the CEO and Founder of MindLumina, a San Francisco biotech consulting company.

Dr. Ulana Rey (LinkedIn), based in San Francisco, is a Doctor of Pharmacy, biotech consultant, and entrepreneur. She is the CEO and Founder of MindLumina.

Ulana Rey, PharmD has 25 years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and consulting experience providing strategic direction, execution, and oversight of global medical affairs, drug information, scientific communications, clinical development, competitive intelligence, and corporate development programs. Ulana also provides expertise on artificial intelligence tools in the field of biotech.

With more than 15 product launches and several acquisitions, Ulana has extensive experience creating and scaling new departments and managing national and global teams. She received numerous awards for her excellence in work, collaboration, and leadership.

As part of the executive leadership team at Otonomy, Ulana Rey served as the Senior Director of Medical Affairs and National Medical Science Liaisons where she developed and executed medical strategies for the otology product portfolio, evaluated research and clinical development programs, and led scientific discussions at advisory board meetings.

At Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Ulana launched a new non-opioid analgesic for acute post-surgical pain, managed a team of medical science liaisons, and delivered scientific presentations to thought leaders, payers, and hospital systems nationwide.

At Gilead Sciences, Ulana led Medical Information teams for 3 product launches of 3 newly acquired companies in 4 years. From the ground floor up, she also spearheaded a new division called Medical Communications which gathered and disseminated competitive intelligence insights in daily company-wide bulletins, as well as developed, annotated, and managed all medical slide presentations across all company therapeutic areas (HIV, hepatitis, cardiovascular, pulmonary, oncology, rare diseases).

Prior to joining the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, Dr. Ulana Rey was a trauma and critical care pharmacist at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She conducted clinical research in AIDS and gastroenterology at the University of California at San Francisco, as well as basic and translational research in brain injury and neurological diseases at the University of Miami.

Ulana earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco. There, she was a finalist for the Bowl of Hygeia award, the highest honor for a graduating student. She completed her residency at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University and became a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. Ulana also holds a B.S. in Biopsychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Ulana lives in the biotech and artificial intelligence capital of the world where she stays up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and startups. She’s an angel investor in startups.
